New Release: International Report on Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety and Mobility

A high powered U.S. contingent recently wrapped up a study of several European countries to determine what makes walking and bicycling such significant sectors of transportation in those countries.  Their conclusions highlight the importance of policies that declare walking and cycling as primary modes of transporation in some residential areas, the design of streets that make walking safe and attractive, and substantial encouragement of walking. American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Wants YOUR Input

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) wants your input on the update of the AASHTO Guide for the Planning, Design and Operation of Pedestrian Facilities (AASHTO Pedestrian Guide). The Guide was last published in 2004, and is proposed for revision in the next few years. The input of practitioners who use the Guide is important for the next edition of the Guide.

When Getting There is Half the Battle: NJ Aims to Improve Walk to Stations

July 17, 2009

In 2006, NJ pedestrians got a $74 million boost from Governor Corzine’s five-year statewide pedestrian safety initiative. Pedestrians in 15 communities will see some of the first improvements funded through the Safe Streets to Transit component of the program with the recent announcement of 2008-2009 grants for sidewalks, traffic calming, and other pedestrian improvements.
