Steps toward Car Free Sundays

Gil Penalosa, America Walks Expert Advisory Committee member and Executive Director of 8-80 Cities, invites you to a Study Tour in Guadalajara Mexico, from March 13-15, 2010. Tap Foot, Lights Blink, Walk Across Street!

Seattle has installed blinking in-street lights defining a busy pedestrian crossing. The lights are activated by stepping on the colored pad at the curb with the detectable surface. It also activates flashing lights over a pedestrian crossing sign for effective nighttime visibility. Watch the action on this Streetsfilm video.

County to spend more than $7 million on sidewalk projects

Jefferson County, Kentucky will spend more than $7 million in federal stimulus money on 2,500 sidewalk projects in 2010. That’s more than 70 times their normal allocation. About 60 percent will be spent inside the old city limits of Louisville. Many of the projects are relatively small, under 70 feet long.  Read more >
