Webinar - February 26, 2008
"Collaborating with Communities of Color"
By, Tina Zenzola, WalkSanDiego Board of Directors & Safe and Healthy Communities Consulting, Owner & Director
(Please note: The audio starts five minutes into Webinar, during Austin Brown's introduction to the SRTS Case Study project)

Safe Routes to School offers tremendous opportunities for low
income communities of color. Minority and low-income populations are at a
higher risk for obesity, diabetes, and traffic-related injuries. Unfortunately,
many champions for safe routes lack the knowledge and experience to successfully
engage those very communities.
This 60 minute presentation shares the
story of WalkSanDiego's work with the Latino community in Chula Vista,
California and introduces several concepts that may be useful to safe routes
program managers, workers, volunteers, and civic leaders everywhere.
Learn about:
1. The Promotora's role
2. WalkSanDiego's
model of Engagement
3. Cultural Competency Training
At the start of
the call, Austin Brown of the National Center for Safe Routes to School will
provide a brief introduction focusing on the NCSRTS case study project and
information on how your projects and programs can submit information for a case
study.
This webinar is part of the Safe Routes Coaching Action Network
