Building Community Support for SRTS Programs

By: Dan Burden, Executive Director, Walkable Communities

It is one of the biggest problems faced by advocates and organizers. You have the vision, the energy and perhaps even the volunteers but, how do you get the community support you need to accomplish the goals of your SRTS program?

In this 60 minute webinar, Dan Burden, a nationally recognized authority on bicycle and pedestrian programs, will teach you techniques to assist in gathering that sought after community support.

Dan will focus on the charrette-style workshop, which is a visually engaging, interactive, and collaborative series of public workshops, focus groups, field condition inventories and design sessions. These workshops offer opportunities for friendly, informal discourse and debate among community citizens, and the process achieves workable visions and solutions for specific neighborhoods or a whole community.

Lauren Marchetti, the Director of the National Center for Safe Routes to School, will give a brief introduction about the National Center's new interactive forums. These forums are designed to provide you with an opportunity to discuss your programs with other SRTS program organizers from around the country.

This webinar is part of the Safe Routes Coaching Action Network Webinar Series, developed by America Walks and the National Center for Safe Routes to School.
