When we think of the words children and movement, physical
development -- the body -- is what first comes to mind. When we
consider cognitive development, the brain is typically the only body
part considered. Due to such reasoning, we've yet to make the
connection between moving and learning. But the research is clear:
physical activity promotes brain and cognitive development, stimulates
learning, and contributes to improved academic success. The trend
toward sedentary lifestyles, therefore, is a factor in a great deal
more than childhood obesity; it impacts a child's overall life and
education.
This 60 minute webinar will explore what the research says about
the link between moving and learning, providing parents, schools, and
communities with information they need to reverse this trend.
Jennifer Bonchak from the National Center for Safe Routes to School
will give a brief introduction on getting parents involved in SRTS
Programs.
This webinar is part of the Safe Routes Coaching Action Network
Webinar Series, developed by America Walks and the National Center for
Safe Routes to School.
